The painting depicts what was most probably a fictitious meeting between the sailing warship HMS QUEEN and the 206-ton paddle-steamer WILLIAM FAWCETT which made the first Peninsular Steam sailing to Spain and Portugal in 1835

It was a common convention to use the same image or artwork on postcards advertising more than one ship of the same class
