In 1875, the first documented Brunello tasting in history was conducted by the Siena committee responsible for grape classification and identification, where a 1843 vintage CastelGiocondo was sampled. The alcohol content, pH, and other values recorded then are astonishingly almost identical to modern Brunello, a historical fact that speaks to the universality
