Personally, if I want a specific card, i'll just grab it instead of buying and ripping boosters to get it
Other effects that apply to the spell or creature can still grant it any characteristics it doesn't have or change the characteristics it does have
However, if you control your commander as you start casting Ancestral Communion but don't control your commander by the time you finish casting it (perhaps because you sacrificed it to activate a mana ability), Ancestral Communion's first ability won't trigger
Beyond that, theres a good amount of curve filler with relevant text in cards like Dusk Legion Sergeant, Elendas Hierophant, and Redemption Choir
